Imagine a world where both Patterson and Bledsoe were Gators

I know I have referenced last May's season finale of the fantastic show "Fringe" and it's eye opening take on an alternative reality where the ultra hot Anna Torv finds herself gazing out of the World Trade Center at the end in the past(video above), but it is an interesting take on "what could have been" for UK. Imagine a world with no Calipari, Bledsoe, or Patterson. It's an awful alternative, but it could have happened.

I know that the last 6 months have been dream like for UK fans and I know that I have had to pinch myself a couple of time to make sure this is all real. If not for a couple of twists of fate, possibly 40% of UK's starting lineup could be wearing *gasp* Gator orange this year.

A couple of weeks ago, Eric Bledsoe talked about his recruitment and he said that if Billy Gillispie was still coach at UK, he more than likely would have gone to Florida. And even if Calipari was still in Memphis, he would have been a Gator as well.

Then at SEC Media Days today, Patrick Patterson talked about his recruitment and one of the main factors that lead Patterson to UK was Billy Donovan's 6 day stint as head coach of the Orlando Magic. Patterson said that his parents were prepared to move to Florida with him if he did become a Gator, but that Orlando tryst weighed on his mind:

“Oh yeah, that played a factor. He (Donovan) told me if he left he would sign something to allow me to open my recruitment back up to other places. I was constantly listening to what people were saying, if he was going to take a job, and he did take a job despite what he was saying, but he came back.”

The above scenarios are enough to give any Wildcat fans nightmares. It's amazing how close this team came to total destruction and how quickly it changed due to just a couple of simple twists of fate.
