No treats for Wildcats as Mississippi State blackens UK's season 31-24

It's deja vu all over again.

Two seasons ago, UK was on the verge of a 8 win season and the prospect of playing in a New Years Day Bowl when they welcomed the 4-4 Mississippi State Bulldogs to town for what was expected to be a fairly easy Wildcat victory.

This season, UK was on the verge at making a run at a 8 win season and the prospect of a bowl outside the state of Tennessee when they welcomed the 3-5 Mississppi State Bulldogs to town for what was expected to be a fairly easy Wildcat victory.

Both times, harsh reality smacked the Wildcats in the face to the tune of 31-17 and 31-24 losses. The only thing these Wildcats have shown is a remarkable ability to not be able to handle prosperity.

Of all the frustrating Wildcat losses, this one ranks near the top. UK seemingly was in control of this game in the second quarter wth a 14-3 lead but in a continuing theme for the game, the Bulldogs scored on remarkably easy drives as the Wildcats showed a disturbing tendency to not be able to play any defense at all.

Despite getting outplayed by Sun Belt conference Louisiana Monroe last week and managing to win big, the Wildcats showed they learned nothing from their game last week. The Wildcat D was horribly manhandled again to the tune of 348 rushing yards. They let a QB who had no passing TD's since October 3 burn them on a wide open, 67 yard touchdown.

And despite a great night by Derrick Locke, the rest of UK's offense was horribly average. The MSU defense was keyed on Randall Cobb most of the night and even though Morgan Newton looked better at times, he seemed horribly lost most of the night with an annoying tendency to hold on to the ball way too long.

I think the most frustrating part is that for the second time this season, UK took the ball out of Randall Cobb's hands and disaser ensued. The first was the two point conversion. The second week was in the fourth quarter with UK driving to tie the ball, Cobb did not get the ball at the goal line and a horribly ill advised Newton pass ended up as an interception to quell the drive.

To be honest, I am a bit too frustrated to write much more and I really don't want this to turn into a rant on Brooks and Phillips, so I will pick this up later and just say "Happy Halloween.
