I just wanted to clear a couple of things up on the Tobias Harris recruitment since I was confused about the ending date of the early signing period and his announcement ceremony. While the early signing period ends today, Tobias will make make his decision known until tomorrow on ESPN-U. So from all indications, Harris will still go to the school and sign his letter of intent, and just announce it tomorrow. As of right now, Harris's recent actions are screaming TENNESSEE. Harris completed his visit at Georgia Tech yesterday, and as Andrew Hardison reported, his Dad had the usual complimentary things to say about Georgia Tech. Now at some point yesterday, Tobias decided to make the trip from Atlanta to Knoxville and from some reports, he took in the Volunteers game last night. Other reports are saying that although he was in Knoxville, he was not there to commit. I know the most ardent of UK fan is hoping that he was just in Knoxville as a "layover" and will be headed North to Lexington today, but there is not a lot of support for that theory.
The dominoes will start to fall on this recruitment around 3PM today when JayVaughn Pinkston, another New York combo forward makes his decision. Pinkston is heavily rumored to be picking Tennessee and some coaches in the recruitment of Harris say there is no way that Harris will go to the same school as Pinkston. What is kind of discouraging for UK is that Torrell Harris is saying that both players would get minutes at Tennessee:
“They’re two different players,” Torrel said. “JayVaughn is a power forward and Tobias, he can do it all. I think if he [Pinkston] did go there [Tennessee], they’ll both play a lot.”
Maybe I am reading too much into the 28 words from Torrell, but find it he interesting that he says "if Pinkston goes there" instead of if Tobias goes there. Plus, Tobias is the #5 player overall compared to Pinkston's #67. I would think that Harris would get priority from Pearl.
Either way, this is going to be an interesting one to follow today and this more than likely will break sometime today. To paraphrase Patrick Patterson's quote about Duke, I don't think that Harris "is feeling UK" but as always, I am ready to be pleasantly surprised.
